Special services began on the 8th July and ran to the 21st August 1948, 345,000 miles were covered. The London Transport Executive was formed in 1948, the year of the last Olympic Games hosted in London, as part of the governmentÍs massive post-war nationalisation programme. LT entered public ownership as part of the British Transport Commission which also owned the newly formed British Railways.
